About Us
In
December of 2008 the Superintendent of Schools invited parents and teachers to attend an informational meeting to determine
if a special education parent teacher group would be beneficial to the Newington Public School System. From that meeting,
a Board of Directors was formed, and in March 2009 the group moved forward with the formal application process of becoming
a district-wide Special Education PTA
Currently, there are nearly 500
students in the Newington Public School System who have been identified as having special needs. Our objective, in common
with that of the National PTA and the Connecticut PTA, is to promote the welfare of children and youth with special needs. The Newington Special Education PTA Board is an enthusiastic group of parents and school staff eager
to work with and on behalf of Newington families
and their children with special needs.
Over the past year SEPTA has brought the special education community in Newington a monthly program and lecture
series, clinical and educational support groups, social events, advocacy, resources, a high school scholarship program and
a vast network for parents and caregivers.
